Terms of Use
Last updated September 8, 2026
These are the rules for using Settled. They are meant to be readable rather than clever. By making an account you are agreeing to them.
Who can use Settled
You need to be 18 or older, and you need to be a real person using your own name. One account each. Do not make an account for someone else, and do not pretend to be somebody you are not.
How to behave here
Settled works because people show up and are decent to each other. So:
- Do not harass, threaten, or demean anyone.
- Do not use Settled to sell things, recruit, or promote a business. Venues have their own partner accounts for that.
- Do not post anything sexual, hateful, or violent.
- Do not scrape the site, or collect other members' information for use somewhere else.
- If you say you are going to an event, try to actually go. Hosts plan around the numbers.
Hosting events
Anyone can host. Your first event gets a quick look from us before it goes live; after that yours publish right away. You are responsible for the event you run, including choosing a location where it is safe and permitted to gather.
We can remove an event, or your ability to host, if an event is unsafe, is not what it claimed to be, or draws upheld reports.
Meeting people in person
Settled helps you find people, but we do not run background checks and we cannot vouch for anyone. Use ordinary judgment: meet in public first, tell a friend where you are going, and leave if something feels off.
The same goes for housing. If you find a roommate here, we are not a party to your lease and we have not verified anyone's finances, references, or rental history. Do your own due diligence before signing anything or handing over money.
Your content
What you post stays yours. You are giving us permission to display it inside Settled so the app can work, and nothing beyond that. We will not use your photos in advertising. You can delete your content, or your whole account, at any time.
Only post things you have the right to post, including photos of other people who are fine with being posted.
Reports and removal
You can report an event or a member. We read reports and act on them. We may remove content or suspend an account when someone breaks these rules, and we will act faster where safety is involved. If you think we got it wrong, email us and we will look again.
Cost
Settled is free to use right now. If that ever changes, we will tell you well before it does, and you will not be charged for anything without agreeing to it first. Venues pay for featured listings today.
What we promise, and what we do not
We are a small operation and are still building. The app is provided as it is. We cannot promise it will always be available, bug free, or that you will meet people you like. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for what happens between members, at events, or in housing arrangements you find here.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under Massachusetts or United States consumer law.
Ending things
You can delete your account whenever you want, from your profile settings. We can close an account that breaks these rules. If we close yours, we will tell you why unless doing so would put someone at risk.
Changes and contact
If these terms change meaningfully we will let you know before it takes effect. Questions go to hello@joinsettled.com. See also our Privacy Policy.
